Free at-home reading check for children aged 7 to 10
This free printable reading check takes about 15 minutes and helps parents see how a 7 to 10 year old’s English reading is growing. Your child reads three short stories of rising difficulty aloud, answers four friendly questions on each, and you tick what you notice. A final page explains what your notes mean and what helps at home. It guides practice; it is not a school test.

Questions parents ask
Questions parents ask
Does this give my child a reading age or level?
No. It is a friendly home check to guide practice, not a test or a diagnosis. For a trainer’s view, book a free demo class, which ends with a written level report.
What if Passage A feels hard?
That is useful to know. Practise letter sounds and blending with short, simple books, and read together for about 10 minutes a day. Our guide to reading aloud has more ideas.
Can my child write the answers?
They can, but talking is enough. Many children can explain more out loud than they can write at this age.
